Kristiina volunteering in Italy

Bari, Italy
13 Feb 2025 - 11 Sept 2025

Ciao!

My name is Kristiina, I studied economics at university and then studied to be a yoga trainer. I like nature, an active lifestyle, and spending time with friends.

I had been dreaming of living in Italy for years, and I also wanted to do some volunteer work. This was a great opportunity to combine those two dreams.

I informed the local coordinator about my wish, who helped me find a suitable project. Then I had to send my motivation letter and attend an interview. Everything went well, and a month later I moved to Italy.

I lived in a small town called Triggiano with two other really cool volunteers. We worked in a canteen, which was like our soup kitchen. We also worked in primary schools and taught English to children. In the summer, when the schools were closed, we worked in children's camps, where we ran games and free time activities.

I adapted to the culture there quickly. I really like Italian food and it was a luxury to be able to eat local pasta, pizza or focaccia every day. The people were lively and friendly. At first it was difficult to make friends, but over time I found my own people.

One of my goals was to find out what I wanted to do after the project. I discovered that I love working with children. Now I work in a kindergarten and I am very happy in my job.

If you even slightly want to go - then go! It's totally worth it. :)
